16.02.2012 - With JW Flex, J.v.G. Thoma GmbH has made a quantum leap in the solar industry, since this module can be mounted on any desired substrate. The manufacturing technology necessary is now available. Freystadt/Oberpfalz – One innovation from the solar equipment manufacturer, J.v.G. Thoma GmbH trumps all others, because while introducing a high-performance, long-lived module capable of operating in deserts free of potentially induced degradation, the com- pany is also presenting the JW Flex innovation to the world, a modular development that is groundbreaking because it doesn’t require a substructure.
How is that possible? Thanks to a highly flexible approach to its construction. A polymer film envelops the silicon cells on the front and back, which makes JW Flex flexible in every direction. This module can even be mounted on crowned surfaces. Furthermore, at three kilograms per square meter, they are ultralight.
The flexible modules provide high production in particular when the sunlight is very indirect. The spherical arrangement of the silicon is responsible for this performance. JW Flex has been developed in cooperation with the Bavarian company, Jurawatt GmbH. A vari- ety of patents have already been registered for the new technology.
The JW Flex is as flexible in its deployment as it is simple to mount. The modules are hung using eyelets or fastened to the substrate. The solar module manufacturer, Jurawatt, will make the JW Flex modules into a production series from January 2012 in Neumarkt, Ger- many. Just one month later, production will start at the Jurasolar plant in Korea. J.v.G. Thoma will however offer the manufacturing technology required for this to any interested parties that want to invest in solar energy production.

03.02.2012 - A ray of hope: Nanotechnology significantly improves the energy yield in solar modules
Something interesting for all who wish to invest in the future of solar technology: J.v.G. Thoma GmbH is presenting a new development that is aimed to enhance the performance of standard modules by more than 20%. This is made possible by combining nanotechnology and optics.
Freystadt/Oberpfalz – J.v.G. Thoma GmbH has invested three years of research work, now the new technology has reached its market maturity.
Just recently, J.v.G. presented a special high efficiency module which is resistant to extreme heat. The ”desert module technology“ achieves a performance increase by 8 to 10 watts on each standard module through the so-called high power temperature process. The module is already in series production, after it was introduced in the market in December 2011.
Nonetheless, what the innovative developers are now presenting to the public is a genuine quantum jump: as a result of the new HPTP nanotechnology the performance goes up by more than 20%. Hans Thoma, the managing director of J.v.G. Thoma explains how it functions: ”Till now solar modules were able to capture not necessarily all types of rays. But, the nanocoating we have applied is capable of bundling all impacting rays due to its very special properties. Thereby we capture the entire spectrum and utilize it for power generation.“ The whole thing is realized on a surface of 5 x 3 cm.
The prototype on 6-inch base will be completed by end of March. Initial discussions with investors are already going on, but the company is open for more interested parties. “We are keenly looking for partners who wish to shape the future together with us“, Hans Thoma explained.

19.01.2012 - Gold Medals All Around for J.v.G. Thoma: Innovative Lamination Technology Makes This Photovoltaic Module Series The New Standard.
Freystadt/Oberpfalz – If there were a World Cup event for the solar industry J.v.G. Thoma GmbH would have secured their position among the winners, because this specialist in the development and marketing of production equipment is the innovation engine for the entire industry.
The latest development from Thoma, an almost revolutionary high-performance module, is breaking several records at the same time. For one thing, it is extremely heat resistant and very appropriate for deployment in desert regions, since it can handle temperatures up to 125°C. For another, it has three times the life span in comparison with equivalent modules. The module is PID-free, which is extremely important for solar plants, because the Potentially Induced Degradation (PID) is one of the primary causes of performance losses in solar plants over the life their operations. This new, high-performance module was developed in close cooperation with the Bavarian solar provider, Jurawatt. A number of patents have already been registered for the new technology.
The development was made possible by a completely new lamination process. J.v.G. Thoma will offer this technology as a process to all customers who want to invest in manufacturing equipment and thereby open up attractive opportunities for themselves on the market.
Jurawatt GmbH, located in Neumarkt, will make the "desert-capable" high-performance module into a production series from January 2012. Production of the module will start almost simultaneously in Korea upon completion of the new Jurasolar plants in February 2012.
The module has been subjected to the strictest testing in accordance with the IEC and DIN standards. Among other tests, this includes testing UV behavior, temperature cycling, humidityfreezing behavior and steamheat testing, which has been conducted for over 3,000 hours. Overall, the module received the best grades. The values were confirmed both by TÜV Germany (technical inspection association) as well as the Institut National de l’Énergie Solaire (INES, national institute of solar energy).
