Solar Energy in Nigeria: Why Solar Energy Could Be a Blessing for Nigeria in the Future
Solar plants “made” by J.v.G. technology can be found all around the world. J.v.G. technology is now announcing the contract for the first complete plant in Nigeria that will use the Desert process. It will “bring” 10 MW. The installation is scheduled for June/July 2013.
The new plant, however, will implement not only Desert technology but also the leading hybrid modules. And that too will be based on the new 2-mm-technology. The hybrid modules from J.v.G. technology were patented in 2013. They are being promoted through various ZIM projects, namely the Central Innovation Program SME (Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand).
What Is Special About Glass / Glass – Modules?
These modules are more robust than conventional modules because they are covered on the rear side not with a film, but with a glass layer approximately two millimetres thick. This provides optimal protection on the front as well as the back side.
Hybrid Modules: High-Performance Double Deckers
These are modules that have a thermal collector on the rear side. Warm water can be produced directly or a geothermal exchanger can be integrated.
Why Mineral Oil Is Making Nigeria Poor
If any noise is typical for the country, then it is disastrous. Sometimes power failures last not only for hours, but for days or even weeks. Nigeria also has large oil reserves, but these have brought in more misery than prosperity during the last few decades. As a result of the oil production, serious environmental contamination has occurred; there is widespread pollution of the water, air and ground. Many are killed by explosions. In 2010 a damaged pipeline caused a leakage of nearly 3000 barrels of oil that destroyed one of the largest mangrove forests on the earth. Many people felt that oil is also the reason why no one thought about alternative sources of energy for a long time. Saving power? Many people don’t even think about it (yet).
Solar Technology in Nigeria Is a Blessing
With 300 sunny days a year, the initial conditions for solar energy are excellent – if they withstand the temperatures like the Desert modules from J.v.G. technology. The state itself does not promote solar energy, but at least it’s under discussion. An ambitious goal of the government, which is also considering atomic energy, is to ensure that 50 percent of the country’s energy comes from renewable resources in the next 30 years.
